One of the questions I’m asked most often is:
“How many Reiki sessions will I need?”
The honest answer is simple:
It depends on you.
Every person arrives with a unique story, different goals, and different circumstances. Someone seeking support for general well-being may have a very different experience than someone navigating grief, burnout, a major life transition, or emotional healing.
For me, the better question isn’t “How many sessions should I book?” but rather:
“What kind of support feels right for me at this point in my journey?”
There Is No Magic Number
Reiki isn’t something that follows a fixed formula. Some people notice meaningful changes after a single session, while others appreciate ongoing support over weeks, months, or even years.
Neither approach is right or wrong.
Many people choose Reiki as part of their regular self-care practice, while others return only when life feels especially demanding or when they feel intuitively called to reconnect.
The most important thing is finding a rhythm that feels supportive to you.
Healing Is Personal
Reiki can be one part of a much bigger picture.
The choices we make outside the treatment room—how we care for ourselves, the relationships we nurture, the boundaries we create, the support we seek, and the ways we respond to life’s challenges—all contribute to our overall wellbeing.
For some people, Reiki provides a quiet space to pause and recharge. For others, it becomes a companion during a season of change or healing.
Every path is different, and that’s exactly as it should be.
Trusting Your Own Timing
One of the questions I hear most often at the end of a session is:
“When should I book again?”
My answer is usually the same:
Give this session some space to unfold.
Everyone processes energy work differently. Some people feel ready for another appointment within a couple of weeks, while others may not feel called back for months. Some discover that a single session gives them exactly what they need at that stage of their journey.
Rather than following a predetermined schedule, I encourage clients to notice how they feel and trust their own sense of timing. I’m always happy to see them again, and I believe that their own intuition is an important guide.
Healing Happens in Many Ways
Reiki is one supportive tool among many.
Some people combine it with counselling, meditation, journaling, exercise, mindfulness practices, or time spent in nature. Others simply appreciate having a dedicated hour to slow down, breathe, and reconnect with themselves.
What matters most isn’t the number of sessions you receive. It’s the relationship you’re building with your own wellbeing and the ways you’re integrating what you’re learning into your everyday life.
There’s No Wrong Way to Receive Support
Some people prefer occasional check-ins.
Others find comfort in booking regular appointments during particularly challenging seasons of life.
Neither approach is better than the other.
I’ve worked with clients whose needs naturally changed over time. They might begin with more frequent sessions while navigating a difficult chapter and later choose to visit only when they feel called. The rhythm evolves as life evolves.
My role isn’t to decide what that rhythm should be—it’s simply to provide a welcoming space as often as it’s helpful.
A Story of Healing and Growth
One client came to see me after the loss of her husband. She chose to receive Reiki about every two weeks for nearly two years, and those sessions became an important part of her healing journey.
Along the way, she became curious about the practices herself. She enrolled in classes, explored techniques she could use in her daily life, and gradually discovered new confidence in her own abilities.
Today, she has written a book about grief and healing and has opened her own practice to support others.
Watching that unfold was a beautiful reminder that healing isn’t about following a formula. It’s about discovering what supports you, trusting your own path, and allowing growth to happen in its own time.
Final Thoughts
There is no perfect number of Reiki sessions.
Your journey is yours alone, and only you can decide what feels supportive at any given moment. Whether you come once, treat yourself to a special occasion, return regularly for a season, or simply stop by whenever life calls for a little extra care, I trust you’ll know what feels right for you.
My role is simply to hold the space, offer the work, and welcome you whenever the path brings you back to Vital Village.
