Can Anyone Learn to Read the Akashic Records?

Developing your intuition, trusting your inner awareness, and learning to explore the wisdom of the soul.

One of the questions people ask me about the Akashic Records is whether everyone can learn to access them.

Do you have to be psychic?

Do you have to see spirits, hear voices, or receive messages from angels?

Do you need to have been born with some extraordinary spiritual gift?

Or is accessing the Akashic Records something that can actually be learned?

My answer is that I believe most people can develop the skills involved in learning to read the Akashic Records.

But there’s something important I want to explain about what that really means.

Learning to work in the Records isn’t simply about memorizing a prayer or following a set of instructions.

It’s about learning to recognize your own intuitive awareness, becoming comfortable in a particular state of consciousness, and developing the discernment to work responsibly with the information you believe you’re receiving.

And perhaps most importantly, it’s about learning to trust yourself without assuming that every thought, feeling, or impression must be a spiritual message.

What Are the Akashic Records?

Within Akashic spiritual traditions, the Akashic Records are understood as an energetic record of the soul’s experiences, gifts, lessons, relationships, and possibilities.

Some people describe them as a spiritual library containing the history of every soul.

Others understand them as a field of consciousness that can be accessed through prayer, meditation, intention, or spiritual practice.

In my own work, I approach the Records as a spiritual space where we can explore the deeper themes of a person’s soul journey.

I seek connection with the soul, the Higher Self, and the spiritual team of guides, teachers, and angels. Sometimes I experience guidance as coming from Creator.

These are spiritual understandings rather than scientifically established descriptions of an independently verifiable realm.

But within this framework, the purpose of accessing the Records is not simply to gather extraordinary information.

It’s to explore what that information might mean for the life we’re living today.

What are our gifts?

What lessons seem to keep appearing?

What beliefs or patterns might be limiting us?

What are we learning about ourselves through our relationships, choices, and experiences?

And how might greater awareness help us move forward?

You Don’t Have to Call Yourself Psychic

I don’t always describe myself as psychic, even though I work with intuition and spiritual information.

For me, accessing the Akashic Records involves a deliberate process.

I don’t simply sit down and wait for impressions to arrive.

I begin with breathing, grounding, meditation, visualization, and prayer.

I use this preparation every time I enter the Records.

When I’m working with a client, we go through the process together.

We synchronize our breathing, ground ourselves, and follow a visualization that takes us into the Records.

The client hears my prayers and participates in the experience.

Once we’re there, the client guides the reading through their questions and our conversation.

And when we’re finished, we consciously close the Records, disconnect, and visualize returning together.

That structure is important to me because it creates a clear beginning, middle, and end.

I also believe it helps people understand that spiritual awareness is something they can participate in rather than something that must be performed for them by someone else.

When I teach students, I want them to become familiar with this kind of intentional preparation.

They don’t have to arrive believing they’re psychic.

They need to be willing to learn, practise, and pay attention.

Intuition Doesn’t Always Look the Way You Expect

I think one of the biggest obstacles people face when developing intuition is expecting it to look a particular way.

They imagine that a spiritual experience should involve a brilliant flash of light, a booming voice, or an unmistakable vision.

And when those things don’t happen, they assume they’re doing something wrong.

But intuitive experiences can be much quieter.

Some people notice images in their imagination.

Others become aware of words or phrases.

Some experience feelings, bodily sensations, or an unexpected sense of knowing.

And others notice that a question leads them toward an idea or association they hadn’t previously considered.

None of these experiences automatically proves that information has come from a spiritual source.

Learning discernment is part of the process.

But I don’t think someone should dismiss their intuitive development simply because their experience doesn’t resemble what they’ve seen in a movie or read in a book.

We all perceive and process information differently.

And learning to recognize your own patterns of awareness is part of becoming comfortable with intuitive work.

Why We Use a Pendulum in Level 1

One of the tools I introduce in my Level 1 Akashic Records training is the pendulum.

I use it as a way to help students deepen their intuitive awareness and become more comfortable with the vibrational state we associate with working in the Records.

A pendulum can provide a simple, visible focus during intuitive exercises.

It gives students something tangible to work with while they practise becoming quiet, attentive, and aware of their own responses.

There is also a practical reason to approach pendulum work thoughtfully.

Small, unconscious muscle movements can influence how a pendulum moves. This is known as the ideomotor effect.

So I don’t teach students to treat every movement as unquestionable proof of a message from outside themselves.

Instead, I see pendulum work as part of developing attention, familiarity, and discernment.

The goal isn’t to become dependent on a pendulum.

It’s to become more comfortable recognizing and exploring your own intuitive process.

Learning to Enter the Records

In Level 1, we begin by exploring what the Akashic Records are understood to be and why someone might want to access them.

We talk about the purpose of entering the Records and the responsibility that comes with working in this way.

Students learn the spiritual preparation involved in accessing the Records, including the role of grounding, intention, prayer, and maintaining appropriate boundaries.

We also explore pathway prayers.

What are they?

Why do different traditions use them?

And what role can prayer play in preparing our awareness for spiritual work?

Within my teaching approach, students also receive an Akashic Records attunement.

I understand an attunement as a spiritual practice intended to help students become familiar with the energetic state associated with accessing the Records.

An attunement doesn’t mean someone suddenly knows everything or no longer needs to practise.

It’s part of the learning process.

As students become familiar with the methods, we begin exploring how to enter the Records, work with questions, recognize impressions, and close the experience appropriately afterward.

Because learning how to finish spiritual work is just as important as learning how to begin it.

The Soul Profile: Learning Who You Are Beneath the Conditioning

One of the subjects we explore in Level 1 is the soul profile.

I find this area particularly interesting because so much of our human identity develops through the experiences we have after arriving in this world.

We learn what our families expect of us.

We discover which parts of ourselves are celebrated and which are discouraged.

We adapt to our schools, communities, relationships, and responsibilities.

And sometimes, somewhere along the way, we begin to forget what feels natural to us.

Within the Akashic framework, a soul profile offers a way to explore qualities and themes associated with a person’s deeper spiritual identity.

We may look at categories of souls, soul groups of origin, and the challenges associated with different experiences.

We explore soul gifts and talents.

We consider life lessons and the ways those lessons may appear in everyday circumstances.

We also examine the idea of spiritual learning and training between lifetimes.

These are concepts within the spiritual tradition rather than independently verified facts about a person’s origin.

But as tools for reflection, they can encourage interesting questions.

What comes naturally to me?

Why have I always been drawn toward certain experiences?

What strengths have I overlooked?

And what parts of myself have I been trying to change simply because they didn’t fit someone else’s expectations?

Sometimes those questions are more valuable than any particular label.

Learning About Soul Gifts and Soul Lessons

One of the things I love about teaching the Akashic Records is watching students begin to recognize the relationship between their strengths and their challenges.

For example, someone who is deeply compassionate may also struggle with boundaries.

Someone who naturally understands other people’s emotions may spend years feeling overwhelmed by them.

A person who is independent and resourceful may have difficulty receiving help.

And someone with a natural ability to lead may be frightened of becoming visible.

Within the Akashic framework, we explore these qualities as possible soul gifts and soul lessons.

But I don’t want students to use spiritual labels to limit themselves.

If someone identifies with a particular soul lesson, that doesn’t mean they’re destined to struggle with it forever.

The purpose of recognizing a pattern is to create awareness.

And awareness gives us the opportunity to choose differently.

Ethics: Just Because You Can Ask Doesn’t Mean You Should

This is one of the most important parts of my teaching.

Learning to access the Akashic Records is not permission to investigate everyone else’s spiritual life.

We talk about consent.

We talk about privacy.

We talk about who we can ethically read for and when it is appropriate to decline a question.

We also discuss the difference between receiving an impression and assuming we have the right to declare something as absolute truth.

I don’t believe a practitioner should use spiritual information to frighten someone, control their decisions, or convince them that they have no power over their future.

I don’t believe we should tell someone that their marriage must end because a particular timeline appears strong.

Nor do I believe we should use spiritual interpretations to override someone’s boundaries or lived experience.

And I certainly don’t believe that being able to access the Records makes someone more spiritually important than anyone else.

If anything, I think learning to work with spiritual information should encourage humility.

We are human beings.

We have personal filters, biases, and experiences that influence how we interpret information.

Recognizing those filters is part of becoming a responsible practitioner.

Learning to Read for Yourself and Others

My Crow Medicine Akashic Records Reading Level 1 training is designed to introduce students to reading both for themselves and, with appropriate consent, for others.

We explore the methods and ethical guidelines involved in the process, along with subjects such as soul profiles, soul gifts, soul lessons, spiritual guides, and the types of information students may encounter.

There is time for learning, questions, and practice.

The purpose isn’t simply to complete a course and collect a certificate.

It’s to develop enough familiarity with the process to begin working with greater confidence and responsibility.

Students who complete the Level 1 certification learn a foundation they can continue developing through their own practice and experience.

And I encourage them to remain curious.

Because spiritual development isn’t something we finish in seven weeks.

It’s an ongoing process of learning, questioning, and becoming more aware.

What If You Don’t Feel Anything at First?

Then you practise.

I know that might sound terribly ordinary for something as mysterious as the Akashic Records.

But I think it’s important.

Not every meditation feels extraordinary.

Not every intuitive exercise produces a dramatic impression.

Sometimes you’re distracted.

Sometimes you’re tired.

Sometimes your mind wanders off to the grocery list.

That doesn’t mean you’ve failed.

Learning to become comfortable with a practice takes time.

I encourage students to pay attention to what they notice without forcing an experience or trying to make every impression mean something.

And I remind them that they don’t have to compare themselves with anyone else in the class.

One student may be very visual.

Another may recognize feelings or words more easily.

Another may need more time to become comfortable with the process.

That’s perfectly fine.

The purpose isn’t to perform spirituality for an audience.

It’s to develop your own awareness in a way that feels grounded, thoughtful, and authentic.

You Don’t Have to Give Away Your Power to Develop Your Gifts

This is something I want every student to understand.

A spiritual teacher should not become the authority over your soul.

My role is to teach you the methods I use, explain the spiritual framework behind them, help you practise, and encourage you to develop discernment.

I’m not there to tell you who you must become.

I’m not there to decide what your spiritual gifts should look like.

And I’m certainly not there to convince you that you need me in order to remain connected to your own spiritual awareness.

I want students to become more capable of exploring their own questions.

I want them to understand boundaries and consent.

I want them to recognize when their personal opinions may be influencing an interpretation.

And I want them to feel comfortable acknowledging uncertainty.

Because confidence doesn’t have to mean being certain about everything.

Sometimes genuine confidence is being able to say, “I’m not sure what that means yet.”

And allowing yourself to keep learning.

So, Can Anyone Learn to Read the Akashic Records?

I believe the practices involved can be learned by many people who are willing to approach them with curiosity, patience, and an open mind.

You don’t need to call yourself psychic.

You don’t need to have extraordinary visions.

You don’t need to arrive already knowing how to meditate perfectly.

And you certainly don’t need to surrender your personal power to someone who claims to have all the answers.

You need a willingness to learn.

You need respect for yourself and others.

You need an understanding that spiritual information should be approached with discernment.

And you need the patience to develop a practice that feels natural to you.

The Akashic Records, as I understand them, aren’t about becoming more impressive or more spiritually important than anyone else.

They’re about exploring consciousness, the soul’s journey, and the possibilities for greater understanding.

And sometimes the most meaningful discovery isn’t something extraordinary about a past life.

It’s realizing that you have more awareness, more choice, and more ability to understand yourself than you previously believed.
